1. Banasur, Varansur fort (Vanasur-Ka-Kila)

Banasur ka Kila is situated at an elevation of 1,859 m and is believed to be constructed during the Medieval Age. The inhabitants believe that this fort was built after Banasur, the eldest son of King Bali, who was assassinated at this site.

 

Vanasur ka Kila is a must-do for lovers of mythology. Vanasur Ka Kila is believed to be the capital of demon Vanasur who faced his defeat at the hands of Lord Krishna.

 

Lohawati River also originates from this site which is located alongside the Bhowali Road. This fort is around 7 km from Lohaghat.

2. Mount Abbott

Mount Abbott is a place that has not changed much since it was established in the 20th century by a British businessman John Harold Abbott.

 

The place experiences excellent weather throughout the year, making it ideal for activities like trekking, angling, bird watching, and photography. Enriched in flora and fauna and bounded by thick forests of pine and deodars, the area is a must-visit away from the screeching noises of the city.

The prominent valleys in the Shivalik seen from Abbott Mount are Pithoragarh to its North, Nepal to it's East, South-East Champawat, South-West Almora, Chakauri and Gangolihat.

3. Advaita Ashram

Located about 9kms from Lohaghat, Mayawati/ Advait Ashram is another popular tourist and pilgrim destination. 

 

The view of the Himalaya and its picturesque location makes this Ashram quite the appealing factor of the small town of Lohaghat.

 

A library and museum are found inside the Ashram, those which are tempting to pilgrims and tourists alike.

4. Devidhura Temple

Devidhura is a famous Barahi temple. An exceptional fair is held every year, and it attracts people from Nepal, Kumaon, etc. on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Jim Corbett’s story known as ‘Temple Tiger’ is based on the unusual festival held in this temple.

 

The place Devidhura is situated at a junction of Almora, Pithoragarh, and Nainital districts.

 

Devidhura Mela is famous for its enchanting dance and folk songs and also for its Bagwal. Goddess Varahi is worshipped in this temple on this day in a rare way.

 

5. Reetha Sahib

Meetha Reetha Sahib, built in the year 1960, is the pilgrimage of the Sikhs.

 

According to legends, this is the place which was visited by Guru Nanak for religious and spiritual discussion with Gorakhpanthi Jogis.

 

The place is situated on the confluence of River Ratiya and Lodhiya, also known as sweet Reetha. The temple of Dhernath is also located close by Meetha Reetha Shahib.

6. Pancheshwar

Pancheshwar is located at the meeting point of the Kali and Saryu rivers. This destination shares its boundary with the neighboring country Nepal.

 

Tourists can see a 6000-MW multi-purpose dam here. Pancheshwar is a paradise for adventure junkies.

7. Baleshwar Temple

An ancient temple of Baleshwar is devoted to Lord Shiva which is located in Champawat district of Uttarakhand.

 

Apart from religious Char Dham pilgrimage, Baleshwar is one of the popular temples in the hill state of Uttarakhand.

 

The devotees from different parts of the country visit this temple and worship Lord Shiva to seek the blessings. The main Baleshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is also known as Baleshwar.
